Head to The Shortland Hotel for the state's best draught beer

The Shortland Hotel—better known as “The Shorty” these days—has reclaimed its draught beer crown from the Oriental Hotel in Mudgee, with the Sandgate Road venue again winning the 2023 AHA NSW Award gong it first swept in 2019.

Nick Clark, who also runs the Nags Head Hotel in Adamstown, took over the reigns of the 50-year-old Shortland pub in 2014 and quickly turned it into one of the best venues in the Hunter.

Before the hotel’s 2019 gong victory, it was nominated for six categories the year before.

If you’re looking to partner Shortland’s award-winning drop with some food, you’re spoiled for choices. On Mondays, the Shorty dishes up a “ribs and wings” evening and on Tuesdays it’s buy one, get one free for schnitties. If you’re looking to go a little cheaper, it’s only $14.50 for a schnitzel on Thursdays and $17 for burgers on Wednesdays.

In particular, the Newy Local recommends parking up in the new beer garden.
