Battlesticks At Scratchleys finally opens doors again

Battlesticks at Scratchleys is welcoming customers again this week after more than three years, following several tough years as owner Neil Slater looked to re-open the harbour-side bar.

From November 10, the iconic restaurant—complete with its 180-degree views and delicious tapas menu—will be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This Friday’s opening marks the first time this decade the Scratchleys attachment has been used as a freestanding slice of the establishment.

The Battlesticks Bar originally opened its doors in 2016 and quickly wowed the city with its views right on Newcastle Harbour as well as its luxurious seafood offerings. The COVID-19 pandemic put paid to several plans Slater had for the space and it eventually became an extension of Scratchleys as a way to work in the government’s four-square-metre rule. It is now to be used as its own subsection and can even host functions as a separate venue.

The tapas-style menu is still around and will be served out of the Scratchleys kitchen.
